The Youghiogheny River Trail and the Five Star Trail are maintained, monitored and promoted by volunteers. Most of the volunteers belong to an organized Trail Council or Chapter of the Regional Trail Corporation. These trail support groups hold monthly meetings to plan their events and maintenance projects.
Chapters and Meetings
Each Trail Council / Chapter is separate and independent of each other, but are all a part of the Regional Trail Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The RTC is the developer and manager of the Youghiogheny River Trail, north section, and aiding in the development of the Five Star Trail, the Sheepskin Trail, the Coal & Coke Trail between Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant, and the Westmoreland Heritage Trail between Saltsburg and Trafford. We are currently studying feasibility of a trail between Twin Lakes County Park and Crabtree.
